 The ISO 9001 certification, still rare in the translation industry, was granted to Nouveau Language on Thursday, October 16th, 2008. Nouveau received the highest possible grade in the evaluation completed by Det Norske Veritas.
Despite its small size, Nouveau is a significant player on the Finnish translation and language service provider market. Our goal is to produce cost-effective and competitive products for our customers reliably and with high quality within the agreed delivery times. The Nouveau team efforts to unite and verify operations were fruitful, as Nouveau Language was successfully audited during Sept. 25 – 26th. Det Norske Veritas completed the audit at both the Turku and Helsinki Nouveau offices.
The ISO 9001 quality system offers a model that can be used to achieve all the desired results by focusing on the efficiency of the business processes. It promotes process-oriented thinking where the weight is on creating additional value, process functionality, efficiency, and continuous operational improvement. The certification targeted Nouveau’s activity system description, which covers the company’s procedures, objectives, job descriptions, and the processes related to the work. ”Through the certification, we receive concrete proof that we all abide by the agreed rules and operate in the best interest of our customers” says Jim Alcenius, Nouveau’s President and Quality Manager. ”In addition, it guarantees that operations will be continuously developed and that our quality can be depended on.” DNV used as a tool for the evaluation the PDCA cycle, which is one of the most used tools in quality management and process development. Nouveau received the highest possible points for every area of the evaluation. Despite the slight anxiety, the audit experience was positive and relaxed. ”It was interesting to explain my own job description and the company’s principles to a company outsider. When contemplating how to express something without using our internal ‘slang', I was forced to look at translation issues in a new light, which was interesting. It was also great to note that even outsiders find that we at Nouveau conduct business efficiently and with high quality", says Henna Tuupanen, Project Manager, after a long day of auditing.
The certificate brought smiles to faces
 The certificate presentation ceremony was conducted at the Turku Nouveau office on Thursday, Oct. 16. The certificate was presented by the Det Norske Veritas representative, Pia Tilli, Sales Manager, and it was received by Owner Tom Alcenius and President Jim Alcenius while the rest of the Nouveau staff present cheered.
”We sought the certification as we wanted concrete models for our operations and verification that we all were performing the operations as agreed. We strive to always agree in advance with the customer what will be delivered and how, as well as other important issues related to each project. After this we verify that the agreed practice has been adhered to and create development issues together with our customers in order for us to grow in the future as well”, says Tom Alcenius when describing the company’s business idea, which is supported by receiving the certification.
Nouveau's quality control extends throughout all activities and is, therefore, a guarantee of high-quality service for both translations and customer service. The activity system creates a clear framework for Nouveau personnel and provides an opportunity to improve individual job performance. ”The quality certification granted to Nouveau is unique and excellent. It is an indication that we are all committed to the long-term and cohesive development of our activities, and we have achieved our set goals. For this, we thank the entire Nouveau staff", Tom says with a smile on his face.
